Company Founder & Director
A lifelong passion for movement and physical expression first inspired Maria to study elements of Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, and Salsa dance. She then dedicated 2 years to studying the martial art Taekwondo in which her commitment to technical excellence saw her achieve the title of British Champion for technique and patterns before a return to her first love, dance.
Maria found her true passion for dance was ignited when she attended a course in Egyptian dance in 2003 under the tutelage of Jane Manze (Hilal) in Brighton. She then studied bellydance extensively, attending workshops from both national and internationally renowned teachers. Settling in her home-town of Southampton, from 2003-2005 she qualified as a Fitness Instructor and Make-up Artist and then began studying Tribal and Fusion techniques under the tutelage of Heike Humphries (JWAAD).
Seeing vast possibilities for developing and expressing her own style, Maria began to experiment with fusion in both her musical interpretation and technique. As a result, she has succeeded in creating her own unique style which blends beautifully both the traditional elements of Egyptian and Folkloric Bellydance with the freedom and artistic expression of Tribal fusion. Maria has been performing professionally since 2007.
Maria completed her LAMDA acting and JWAAD Foundation certification in 2008 and began teaching in 2009. After being talent spotted by Hossam and Serena RAMZY on the DRUMZY Certified Dancers Course she was invited to join the RAMZY Dance Company in 2010 and continues to rehearse and perform with the troupe.
In 2010 Maria founded and established Goddesses and Amazons, a bellydance company based upon developing sound technique and body conditioning fused with artistic expression and creative interpretation.
Maria is commited to expanding her knowledge and technique within Bellydance and the performing arts and considers it a privilege to share her passion and knowledge with other enthusiasts.
